Located in the heart of Kendal’s conservation area, this prestigious project incorporated a range of new buildings including offices, a supermarket, retail units and apartments.
Steven A Hunt & Associates were asked to design individual building services for each apartment, so they could be sold freehold, with bespoke bathroom designs to enable the developer to sell them at a premium price. The retail units, conversely, were left as shells, with serviced supplies for tenants to develop.
Restricted access to the site was solved by designing equipment which could be transported on smaller vehicles along narrow roads. And demands for pre-Christmas completion - essential for the client’s business model – were met by organising frequent M & E meetings, to review and deal with risks before they caused delays.
The stunning appearance of the buildings, with ‘hidden’ services and imaginative lighting to harmonise with the picturesque Lake District setting, helped Wainwright’s Yard win a Best Town Centre Development award.
