What we did
We were appointed to deliver the full mechanical and electrical design for the refurbishment and extension of the ground floor of the historic Old School building at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. The project focused on transforming existing academic spaces into a modern, functional environment, including the refurbishment of the library, creation of a new special collections room, group room, public areas, and a new welfare kitchen and staff office. A new lift installation was also included to improve accessibility.
Our responsibilities covered the complete design and coordination of all building services across both mechanical and electrical disciplines. This included lighting and emergency systems, small power, LV distribution, fire alarms, CCTV, access control, structured wiring, and mechanical plant integration. The mechanical scope encompassed the installation of new ventilation systems, VRF heating, water services, and drainage modifications.
Working within a historically significant education and research facility, we developed solutions that respected the existing structure while delivering high-performance systems tailored to the operational and technical needs of the building.
