We were commissioned by North Manchester General Hospital to design the services for a 24 bed intermediate care unit. It was built on two floors with a sunken communal garden, a patient gym and a mock apartment to help patients adjust to home life. All bedrooms have en suite facilities and the building consists of day rooms, kitchens, communal space and administration.
The scheme is provided with an air source heat pump with back up boilers distributing low pressure hot water to radiant panels. The ventilation has full heat recovery and water services are regulated via specialised auto temperature control valves. The building has nurse call, bedhead trunking, pinpoint staff attack, door access control, CCTV and a full building management system.
