Steven A Hunt & Associates were contracted to provide a design for a state-of-the-art ventilation and heating system for a new six storey college in the centre of Liverpool.
The lower ground floors have been ventilated by dedicated supply and extract air handling units, incorporating heating, cooling and heat recovery. The sports hall has a tempered primary VAV supply air system, with free cooling via the primary fresh air supply. Heating is provided by radiant panels located at high level and rooms with a high heat gain are provided with a DX-based system, in conjunction with the minimum fresh air supply. The sports facility areas which aren’t served by DX-based systems are heated via radiant panels – and in areas where radiant panels aren’t feasible, wall mounted radiators are used.
