Overview
Bradfield College, located in West Berkshire, commissioned the preparation of a tender package for the replacement of the pool filtration plant at its Sports Centre. The existing steel shell filters, installed in 1994, had reached the end of their service life, confirmed by inspection in 2021. The scope required the strip-out of filters, heat exchanger, chemical tanks and controller, and provision of new plant including filters, plate heat exchanger, chemical storage, dosing controls, and UV treatment. The works were planned for delivery during the summer break to allow safe shutdown of the sports centre.

Overview
Steven A. Hunt & Associates produced the tender performance specification, setting out requirements for specialist contractors to deliver. Options for replacement filters were provided, including GRP split tanks, steel shell units, or ceramic media systems, alongside new dosing equipment, chemical storage, flow metering, and a full-flow UV system. The tender also required provision of new control panels, wiring, testing, commissioning, training, and O&M documentation. SHA’s role was to define the performance standards and ensure competitive tendering, with the final detailed design responsibility placed on the appointed contractor.
