Name: Ed Raven

Role: Electrical Project Engineer

What made you choose to become a project engineer?

I have always had an interest and curiosity into engineering and how products are designed. After working on site as an Electrician for nearly a decade I began to develop an interest in how design works for building projects and especially Electrical design packages. This then spurred me to go onto university to acquire a baseline knowledge and foundation to transfer into engineering into the consultancy sector. Being an engineer gives great job satisfaction as you see the project out from start to finish and get to see all the theory and design be developed into the end product.

What has been your favourite job you’ve worked on so far in your career?

So far, my favourite job has been a large care home. This is largely to the fact that in my career on site as an electrician I spent a vast amount of time working on these projects installing the design specified by the consultant. It has given me a great insight into what goes on behind the scenes to get the specification to the required standard for the client and most importantly the end users who will be using the building.

What do you like doing outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy going for hikes and seeing as much of the outside as possible, alongside this I am a regular gym goer and a passionate skier. I have been thinking about getting back into MMA, but this is yet to happen.

If you weren't a project engineer, what would you be?

An adventurous training instructor. I have always enjoyed the outdoors and love extreme sports, I am willing to give anything a try so I believe this would have been the path I would of chosen.
