SHA have recently been assessed and have been qualified by the BRE as Certified Practitioners to BIM Level 2 which recognises five years of hard work and investment in developing these skills.
Our journey in BIM began in 2011 when we purchased our first license of Autodesk Revit and started working on projects requiring 3D coordination. After early issues with training we dedicated someone to concentrate on Revit. Since completing our first project we have gone on to complete 15+ schemes using Revit as our authoring software and are currently working on 4 live BIM jobs. Projects include 7 in the healthcare sector, 5 in education and 4 in private residential.
Over the last few years our skill levels have increased from running AutoCAD alongside Revit as a backup to virtually eliminating AutoCAD and utilising the 3D models to generate the deliverables for a project. We have multiple users engaging in the BIM workflow and fully populating the models with all components. By modelling the design fully, it has allowed estimators to use the models to carry out digital quantity takeoffs.
Not only can models be used for visualisation but we are using Navisworks Manage to spatially coordinate our models against other disciplines and to highlight coordination issues to the wider design team thus reducing issues on site, improving programme and reducing waste.
