This month sees the return of the CIH (Chartered Institute of Housing) conference in Manchester. An event we have attended many times before, Europe's largest housing festival and annual conference invites Local Authorities, housing associations, key partners and suppliers, government, housebuilders, and developers all together in one room to drive forward collectively.
On the agenda at this year's event include governance, risk, tenant voice, changing and resetting business plans, the importance of social care, health and housing integration, professionalism, reputation, the cost of living crisis and quality.
As we look forward to celebrating the sector by networking with clients and colleagues old and new, and gaining valuable industry knowledge from keynote speakers, we thought it was important to look back at some of the housing projects that we’ve been working on already this year. Our vision is to make buildings come alive by creating spaces that make a real difference, and include multi-million pound investments into social housing, residential developments, and extra-care facilities.
Social housing and extra care
We have the pleasure of working on numerous social housing and extra care projects, to support independent living for those looking for high-quality affordable housing and assisted living conditions.
These social housing projects in the UK include state of the art developments, with features such as hairdressing salons, wellbeing areas and leisure facilities, with an extra focus on health, wellbeing and community.
Steven Hunt’s mechanical and electrical design work ensures that the most efficient system is in place. In one project, which provided extra care housing across 130 one and two bedroom apartments, this included using CHP as the lead heating source, alongside a central boiler plant. LPHW distribution mains were routed to each apartment, feeding individual Heat Interface Units, and category 2 domestic sprinkler systems were fitted to each apartment.
We have provided performance briefs, with detailed drawings to identify specifications for M&E work, a TM59 overheating report, establishing a Part L Solution, BRUKL/SAP calculations, and attending design and workshop meetings. We can also undertake a project monitoring and construction support role as well.
These social housing and extra care projects cover areas in Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and total more than £80m in value.
Residential experience
The scale of our residential projects span from £40m high rise developments in London, offering 769 new homes and 1,125 sqm of commercial floorspace, to converting a Grade II listed warehouse space into 538 apartments, with ground floor commercial space, and a basement car park.
Works carried out include producing layout drawings, producing performance specifications for M&E services, an overheating report, establishing a Part L solution and sample SAP calculations, drawing production using Revit, followed by construction support until completion.
