Lynx Technology, Barlborough
Lynx Technology is one of the UK’s leading providers of IT solutions and services to corporate enterprises and the public sector. Our client Waystone Developments Ltd constructed the first Lynx headquarters building on the adjacent site and following rapid expansion Phase II has now been completed. Steven A Hunt & Associates are proud to have been part of both developments for these bespoke buildings.
The building construction is essentially portal frame with brick external façade as high as the first floor where ribbon glazing extends around the perimeter shielded by Brise Soleil. The feature entrance reception translates the rich company image which Lynx are keen to boast.
The building comprises two floors and is designed to facilitate client appreciation of their service. It has an impressive ‘Control Room’ and ‘Presentation Area’ together with workshops, warehouse, canteen facilities and admin offices.
The building has full fresh air ventilation and a VRV heat pump cooling and heating system via ceiling mounted cassettes. Fresh air ventilation is passed through a plate heat exchanger to recover the heat from exhaust air. Careful design of the controls enables the recuperator to revert to by-pass when temperatures dictate and free cooling is afforded to the environment to reduce the load on the cooling.
Lighting schemes to all areas were important to reflect the quality of the space, maintaining their functionality whilst appealing to the occupier, creating a comfortable working environment.
A raised access floor throughout provides a means for the distribution of power and IT cabling. Cable tray laid beneath the floor facilitate the extensive IT wiring and power remains flexible via the use of bus bars linked to remote floor outlet boxes.
Lynx were keen to see fully coordinated drawings and Steven Hunt’s team were enthusiastic to demonstrate their skill in carrying out this essential design process.
Chris Powell was in charge of design, project management and client liaison translating the basic brief in to practical M&E solutions which integrated with the building structure and the demands of a highly motivated client.
The project was delivered on time and on budget with the only unanswered question being ‘When will the next Phase start?’
