Chorlton Park

The brief from Irwell Valley Housing Association was to construct residential apartments from materials that have low environmental impact which minimise energy consumption whilst creating a building which is aesthetically pleasing.

The Architect designed a timber frame constructed on top of a concrete basement car park and providing four floors of accommodation with the upper floor offering duplex apartments on two levels.

The ventilation to the flats consist of individual heat recovery systems to each apartment linking to central common intake and exhaust ducts. The 'u' values to the external walls produced heat losses, which are so low that they are exceeded by their heat gain and therefore small electric panel heaters satisfy the initial warm up requirement.

The building was applauded by the Energy Council and obtained a Housing Design Award in 2001.
